To be more accurate, I’m going to let it die.
Way back in 2012, I had this great idea to have a blog for every book I wrote. “Shape of Secrets” was my second book, and this was my second blog. My hope was to deliver interesting content (don’t we all want to?) on subjects relevant to my book’s plot.
Really, it seemed like a good idea. It probably was. And I even did it, sometimes.
But I also wrote four more books over the next few years, and then I had (you did the math in your head, didn’t you?) SIX blogs. That’s a lot of them. Content diminished.
I discovered I like blogging, but I like writing novels more. And time spent doing the one is time not spent doing the other.
Then I started a new series of books and now I’m soon to have SEVEN more books out there on the market. (I bet you’re keeping up with the numbers.) That would be, you got it, THIRTEEN blogs. This just isn’t going to work.
So, it’s time to let go.
My new plan is to turn my first blog, Face Painting for World Peace, into a blog for all six of my first books. They’re superhero books of sorts, so the blog will change its name to Becoming Extraordinary. Shape of Secrets will be featured there, not here.
As of May 2021 I’m going to stop paying the extra $48/year to WordPress to keep this blog ad free and to have more visual options. Therefore, it will look different. I’m not sure how.
I’m also going to stop paying the extra $18/year to WordPress to keep the nifty URL https://ytothepowerof1.org. It was cool to have it, but I really don’t need it now.
From now until May 5, 2021, I will be using the free URL that comes with this blog. It’s https://ytothepowerof1.wordpress.com. For the next year, anyone who searches for an older post using https://ytothepowerof1.org will be (seamlessly, I think) redirected here.
Starting next May, the best I can figure out is anyone who looks for an old post will get some version of 404 Page Not Found. I’ll feel bad about that, but not bad enough to keep paying $18/year for the rest of my life.
I probably will do a few more posts between now and May 2021, mostly by way of tying up loose ends and directing readers elsewhere.
So what will happen to the actual content I’ve posted over the last eight years? Well nothing, really. I have options to make it disappear completely, but I see no need to do so. I still like what I created here. I’m still proud of it. And I may be back someday, filled with new ideas or maybe even new books that will roll easily into a blog with this previous content. Who knows?
So I guess the blog isn’t actually dying. It’s being put into cryogenic storage, temporarily unavailable but with some small chance of a second go-around someday.
Among many other topics, this blog was about joy. It was about finding your own bliss and celebrating it, what ever it is.
Well, it’s my joy to be writing a lot more books. (And to reduce the time I spend blogging.)
So I guess it’s fitting this blog will go into stasis while I go chase my own happiness.
